WEEK 9

the HOME

1970S VINTAGE DREXEL HERITAGE “CORINTHIAN” BLEACHED BURL CAMPAIGN STYLE SIDEBOARD // You know how ducklings imprint on the first thing they see? I, like a baby duck, imprinted on the first piece of vintage I purchased: a Milo Baughman style Lane Burlwood Lowboy Dresser. Ever since, I’ve gravitated to all things burlwood and Baughman. Speaking of which, I almost drove to Dothan to grab a $50 Facebook Marketplace find I swear was a Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin console. I regret not making the drive. I always do.

RAW RATTAN GLOBE LANTERN // From the raw rattan to the delicate hanging hardware, this globe lantern blows me away.

WAYNE THIEBAUD COFFEE PRINT // Wayne Theibaud, I love you but you make me hungry.

*RAFFIA LAMPSHADE // Would love to pair this with this.

*HOTEL JEROME PRINT // After a friend told me she’d like to, and I quote, “be buried at Hotel Jerome,” I gifted her this print for Christmas. Local Sources: A’mano (Birmingham, AL), Furbish Studio.

*NATURAL SURFBOARD // I would be a total poser if I ordered this, but I can’t stop thinking about how chic it would be to lean this somewhere in the house.

*ELECTRIC COWBOY PETITE // This Texas girl loves a bit of cowboy nostalgia. Still searching for something that would feel at home in a Florida house, though. Local Sources: SCOUT Design Studio (Dallas, TX)

the KITCHEN

NATURAL STRIPED TEA TOWEL SET // Did you know that tea towels were originally designed to line tea trays and catch any spillage?

PASTA COOKBOOK // If you haven’t made pasta at home, you must. It’s a blast, and great for an interactive dinner party. Get inspired courtesy of this cookbook.

GRILLING SET // Someone left our grilling tools outside — and left the propane running, but that’s a story for another time — and they’ve gotten Florida gross (think wet and rusty). Time for a new set (and propane…).

the TABLE

*BONE CHEESE SET // I love cheese but I think I love 30A local store Bohlert Massey even more. Local Sources: Bohlert Massey (Inlet Beach, FL)

POMPEII VASE // I love the juxtaposition of a more classical silhouette with a spatterware pattern, which makes it feel modern despite spatterware (or splatterware) is a 2,000+ year old technique.

AMBER PEARL BOWL // I was a late adopter of Zafferano glassware, but now I’m on board. Local Sources: ALKMY (Birmingham, AL)

PILLAR CANDLES // We had an unexpected (and unexplained) power outage the other night and these came in handy. Also love them for outdoor dining.

the CLOSET

INTRECCIATO LEATHER CARDHOLDER // Recently, one of our dogs ate my wallet (if you know them, you know which one it was). So, I’m in the market for a new one.

GEMMA BAGUETTE SIGNET RING // Though for me it conjures visions of English nobility or New England old moneyed families, the signet ring has been around at least since 3500 B.C. Clearly, it has quite the staying power, making it a worthy investment. I currently layer a thin one with Wilson’s (yes, the dog) initial and a chunkier silver signet that was a lucky estate sale find. Will be trading up to something like this soon, promise.

GWYNETH SLIP DRESS // Also forever on the hunt for silk slip pieces, accepting suggestions for dresses and skirts. I like the idea of a dress for multi-use wear (practical!) that hints at the day-to-night dressing hacks we were peddled by mid-2000s magazines.

TRAINERS // Forever on the hunt for a pair of preppy sneakers for casual wear. I’m kind of over Golden Goose (sue me) and bored with Veja.

DIAMOND BAR DROP EARRINGS // I know it’s not a small business, but Saks Off Fifth is a goldmine (no pun intended) for jewelry. They always have great deals, and everything I’ve purchased has held up to everyday, devil-may-care wear.

the VANITY

ILIA FULLEST VOLUMIZING MASCARA // This mascara made me stop hunting for mascaras. That said, I rarely wear mascara — or any makeup for that matter. And no, it’s not because I’m some cool girl who simply doesn’t need it (I do), I’m just lazy. Local Sources: Citrine Natural Beauty Bar (Phoenix, AZ).

DRY BRUSH // Though I take Gwyneth Paltrow’s suggestions with a grain of salt, dry brushing seems to be a good one. It is, at the very least, a lovely addition to your shower routine. Local Sources: Camelback Flowershop (Phoenix, AZ).

TANGENT OUD HAND SOAP // Never not down to try new hand soaps, especially when they come recommended by fabulously merchandised stores like Newport Beach’s Juxtaposition. Local Sources: Juxtaposition Home (Newport Beach, CA)

the ETC.

PARISH-HADLEY: SIXTY YEARS OF AMERICAN DESIGN // The partnership between Sister Parish and Albert Hadley inspired American design for over three decades — in no small part to a well-heeled clientele including President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy — and their office was a training round for dozens of designers, many of which lead the field today. Think of it as required reading for iconic American design.

ARRANGING THINGS // This weekend I wandered through an antique mall in Knoxville, TN, and fell in love with old things again. I hadn’t fallen out of love with antiques, but it’d been a while since I’d gotten my hands dusty browsing overcrowded, poorly-lit booths. The thrill of the hunt yielded a few small finds and I can’t wait to get home and, well, arrange things. Looking for styling inspiration? This book will help.

PACIFIC NATURAL // Jenni Kayne of the eponymous, all-encompassing lifestyle brand can (at least in my eyes) do no wrong except for her brand’s pricing (see what I mean here). That said, I truly think she is a wealth of inspiration for those who adore California minimalism and its core tenants of texture and tone.

TIVOLI RADIO // So nostalgic. It does have bluetooth, by the way, making it useful.
