WEEK 5

the HOME

ETCHED ARCADIA MURAL // I love this, but it must be used across all four of your walls as accent walls are simply wretched.

ANTIQUED WALL MIRROR // You can make your own by stripping the backing of the mirror, applying bleach with a spray bottle (use sparingly and do it indoors, I learned this the hard way) to eat away at the mirror material, then spray painting the back of the mirror black. Or you could buy this.

HANDRAIL BRACKET // One of the next projects on my list of home updates is exchanging the handrail brackets. Currently, we have a cheap-looking brass. And while I’m 100% sure no one else in our household would ever notice this edit, I’m no less excited for it.

WALKER TAPERED SCONCE // Used this in our second to last reno and loved it. The fixture appears more expensive than it is and has up well in the primary bathroom. Would 10/10 use again.

HAND-PAINTED BUST // Call me strange, but I’ve been on the lookout for a bust and I think this guy is cute.

SIGNATURE HARDWARE AMBERLEY FAUCET // Typically, I prefer a widespread faucet. But, as we were simply switching out the fixtures when renovating our current house (wanted to keep the countertops), I had to find a single-hole faucet. I love this one and have been really happy with all of the Signature Hardware fixtures we’ve used. My plumber, who is incredibly discerning, also approves.

FLORAL ABSTRACT // Love a floral. Love an abstract.

the KITCHEN

PASTA MACHINE // The discovery of this chef-approved method of mixing up pasta dough has made it much more enticing to make homemade pasta, and this pasta machine is easy to use.

FRENCH KITCHEN MARBLE PLATTER // This is a favorite in our kitchen, serving as cutting board, cheese board, and display tray.

DELONGHI MAGNIFICA // My parents have “influenced” at least 5 families to purchase this coffee maker. I’ve owned one for at least 5 years and am super happy with it. Makes a great cup of coffee, though it is a bit loud. P.S. We love this coffee.

VERVE CULTURE HAND JUICER // Super lightweight and display-worthy, this hand juicer gets a lot of use in our household. By C, not me, because I don’t cook. I purchased ours from Becasa. I also love Verve’s manual juicer. Local Sources: Becasa (Apalachicola, FL & Inlet Beach, FL), urbAna (Phoenix, AZ).

WIRE STORAGE BASKET // These come in a few sizes, and they make really cute, functional storage options. I also like the minis for gift baskets.

the TABLE

VINTAGE PAUL REVERE BOWL // These are pretty common at estate sale and antique stores, but there are quite a few on Etsy, too. Personally, I think the more patina, the better. During the year, my collection functions really well as catchalls, but I like to fill them with citrus for Christmas decoration. I recommend buying multiples for groupings. Pro Tip: carry a magnet when visiting antique stores or estate sales to test whether it’s silver plated or real silver. Silver will have a very weak magnetic effect. Pay accordingly.

PICARDIE GLASS TUMBLERS // I love these and think they’re darling for everything from juice to wine.

TROPHY STYLE CHAMPAGNE BUCKET // Same rules apply for above here. I have an orchid in mine.

VELVET NAPKIN BOW // Or, you could buy velvet ribbon and learn to tie pretty bows.

the GARDEN

*WILLY GUHL PLANTER // The silhouette! The patina! I love everything the Swiss designer created, though he is best remembered for these hourglass, weather-resistant stunners. Local Sources: Antiques on Holiday (Miramar Beach, FL), Pittet Architecturals (Dallas, TX).

STUDIO MCGEE OUTDOOR FURNITURE // I’ll skip the dialogue on how ridiculously expensive outdoor furniture is and just say this this Studio McGee set gets the job done. It should be noted that we never attached the “X” detail as it arrived warped. Not sure if that happened during shipping or was poorly made (wouldn’t be shocked), but it functions just fine without it and looks really cute. Pair with these matching accent chairs.

CEMENT FINISH TABLE // As the price suggests, it’s not real concrete, which I think works in your favor, because it won’t be a bitch to move.

the CLOSET

FRESHWATER PEARL EARRINGS // I love a baroque pearl, and this pair is no exception.

TENNIS BRACELET // While these aren’t real diamonds, I am a real tennis player, so I think it comes out in the wash.

ALPACA COCOON CARDIGAN // I’m [wistfully] browsing sweaters, and this will probably be my investment for the [hopefully] upcoming cooler months.

NEW BALANCE 574 SNEAKERS // Fingers crossed these get the final approval from my sneaker freak!

the VANITY

TWEEZERMAN FACIAL RAZOR // No peach fuzz for me, please. And while I’m no dermatologist or aesthetician, I love it as a pseudo-dermaplaning option. It also helps with makeup application and skincare absorption.

COMPAGNIE DE PROVENCE LIQUID SOAP // A sexy soap is a must for any powder room. And while I’m not above refilling a pretty bottle with cheap hand soap, I have found Compagnie de Provence refills at places like Home Goods. Local Sources: A’mano (Birmingham, AL), Sunset & Co. (San Antonio, TX), similar at Juxtaposition (Newport Beach, CA) and urbAna (Phoenix, AZ)

MAISON LOUIS MARIE NO. 4 // This was the scent that started my love affair with Maison Louis Marie, but I have loved every single scent they’ve put out. Great throw, great value. Local Sources: Parasol (Alys Beach, FL), Wood & Rose (Austin, TX)

the ETC.

JOSEPH DIRAND: INTERIOR // This is one of the few coffee table books I purchased at cost (usually, I collect from places like Half Price Books), as Joseph Dirand is a wealth of inspiration.

OF COMMON ORIGIN: NEW ARCHITECTURE OF THE AMERICAN SOUTH // I really need this.

CECIL BEATON’S BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS // When styling coffee table books, I prefer to work within one colorway per vignette for a cohesive look.
