THE BEAUTY EDIT

Long story short: if I can’t put it on with my fingers, I don’t want it. To be honest, I don’t want a lot of makeup to begin with. It takes me 7 minutes to get ready (at the longest), which I rarely do because I don’t work in an office, avoid video calls at every opportunity, and RSVP “no” to most events. I’ve fully embraced the less is more, skincare-first mentality. So, take all of this with a grain of salt.

ULTRA LE TEINT VELVET // I’ve used this lightweight foundation since I was in my teens (in other words, over a decade). There very well could be better options out there now, but I’m sticking to what’s worked. If I feel like I need fuller coverage (a rare occurrence after my new skincare routine), I’ll mix with IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Full Coverage Color Correcting Foundation with SPF 50+.

NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER // This has also had a place in my makeup bag for years. I use it for brightening and correcting.

MINI PETIT LIT UP CREAM HIGHLIGHTER STICK // This is a recent addition and I’m obsessed. It’s a really slick, long-lasting but light-weight highlight I dab on my cheekbones and nose.

BABY CHEEKS LIP + CHEEK CREAM BLUSH STICK // Again, if I have to use a brush, you’ve lost me. I really like this Westman Atelier option because it’s matte. I used the NARS stick, but got kind of frustrated with being sparkly at 9:00 am.

LIMITLESS LASH LENGTHENING CLEAN MASCARA // After a years-long search for the perfect mascara, this is the first tube I’ve re-purchased. Criteria included: lengthening, non-smudging, long-lasting. Bonus points for clean beauty. Local Sources: Citrine Natural Beauty Bar (Phoenix, AZ), The Beauty MRKT (Knoxville, TN)

WAX STICK // I have a vivid memory of my mom showing me a this article from The Wall Street Journal after I begged her to pluck what I thought at the time my unruly, unattractive eyebrows. Her refusal to let anyone — including me — touch my eyebrows are one of the many gifts she’s given me. My eyebrows are unruly, but they are full and, if I do say so myself, a statement feature. And though big brows are now a fully-embraced feature, I’m still reticent to let anyone touch them, though I do contemplate lamination. Always in search of the best non-tinted, long-lasting eyebrow products, I’ve tried a lot of eye-brow grooming products over the years. I found Glossier’s Boy Brow didn’t offer enough hold (my brows are coarse) and Refy offered a lot of hold, but left a sticky, clumpy residue. Sometimes I’ll use Got2B Glued (they now have a packaging option specifically for eyebrows) but prefer to slather on this stick and style with a spoolie.

DISPOSAL SPOOLIES // See above!

OLIO E OSSO // This is a fun grab-and-go multi-stick with a clean formulation.

CAVIAR EYE STICK // Again, if I need a brush, I’m not using it. I’ll drag this along my lash lid to get an eyeliner effect, too.

KOSAS GLOW I.V. // My favorite summer bronze! Bonus points because it’s a clean formation! Local Sources: Citrine Natural Beauty Bar (Phoenix, AZ).

BRONZE BALM // Full disclosure, I have absolutely no idea how contouring works. So I just use this as bronzer. Imagine someone who’s never encountered makeup before putting stuff on their face. That’s how I do it.
